Consero is honored to announce that Lee Braem will be joining the Forum faculty for Consero's Corporate Compliance and Ethics Forum 2012.
Lee Braem is Senior Corporate Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer at Evonik Degussa Corporation in Parsippany, NJ. Evonik Degussa is part of a global specialty chemicals company headquartered in Germany. Mr. Braem Chairs the company’s North American Compliance Team, oversees local implementation of Evonik’s global compliance and ethics program, and is responsible for managing compliance risks and requirements unique to North America. He also advises on matters related to environmental, health, and safety (EHS), chemical plant security, trade compliance, and other regulatory matters.
Previously, Mr. Braem was Environmental, Health, and Safety Counsel at Tyco International and Schering-Plough, addressing EHS issues on an international basis. Mr. Braem was also Corporate Counsel at Quest Diagnostics, addressing not only EHS issues, but also compliance matters related to health care, such as fraud and abuse, false claims, and HIPAA (health information privacy).
In his early career, Mr. Braem worked at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, holding technical, policy, and enforcement positions in the Chicago, IL and Washington, DC offices. He was also in private practice between his time at EPA and working in-house.
Mr. Braem received his Juris Doctor from DePaul University and his Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering from the University of Wisconsin. He is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Mr. Braem’s professional affiliations include member of the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics, Past-President and Board Member of the New Jersey Corporate Counsel Association, Past-Chair of the Association of Corporate Counsel’s national EHS Committee, and member of the NJ State Bar Association’s Professional Responsibility and Unlawful Practices Committee.
Mr. Braem has received several awards for his volunteer pro bono work related to HIPAA and privacy. He is a frequent speaker and author on matters related to ethics and privilege for in-house counsel.
