Consero is honored to announce that Kerry L. Goode, Sr. will be joining the Forum faculty for Consero's Government IT Forum.

Kerry Lindsay Goode, Sr., was named Chief Information Officer for the City of Durham in April 2010. He brings to the City over 29 years of experience in the IT profession. Most of his experience has been in managing IT departments within city government. During his first ten months in Durham, he has joined the City’s Core Strategic Planning and Implementation Team, where he is working to align information technology to the business as the plan is being implemented. He has recently been appointed to organize a partnership between the County of Durham, City of Durham, and Durham Public Schools to explore the feasibility of connecting fiber to the County, City, and Durham Public School System Facilities to align current and future broadband needs to these three entities. Before coming to Durham, Mr. Goode served in other senior IT management positions in Virginia, such as CIO in Charlottesville, VA.

Recently, under Mr. Goode’s leadership, the City of Durham received awards and has aligned several major IT initiatives to the business units that are either completed or in progress, such as:

  • Receiving the “2011 Citizen-Engaged Community Designation Award” from the PTI (Public Technology Institute) for its use of information technology that provides multiple channels for citizens to communicate within the various departments within the City.
  • Completing implementation of the Performance Management System for the City’s Strategic Plan and reporting progress via the Internet website on a robust dashboard.
  • Receiving the IBM Resiliency Grant Award for its business continuity efforts.
  • Implementing several pilot IT projects utilizing iPad and Cloud technologies.
  • Implementing City Public and Private web presence on the SharePoint platform.

Under Mr. Goode’s leadership in Charlottesville, VA, the city’s IT department received the Going-green Award for the new infrastructure, which greatly increased capacity of the datacenter and vastly reduced energy consumption. This project replaced the datacenter and network infrastructure within the entire city. The city also received Fourth Place in the National Digital City Award for increasing access for citizens via the web. He also received numerous other awards such as the Bridge Builder award for putting together an effective relationship within the city’s Social Services Department and Virginia’s information technology department. He successfully replaced the city’s SAP ERP upgrade process with an efficient model that reduced costs.

In his role as Director of Information Technology for the City of Danville, VA, Mr. Goode was instrumental in replacing the legacy mainframe core business system with a robust ERP system. He was able to build partnerships to share the costs of an OC3 fiber connection to the Cloud with the Pittsylvania County and Danville Public School System, greatly reducing costs for each entity. Mr. Goode formed a partnership with the city’s public safety departments, Caswell County, Pittsylvania County, NC Highway Patrol, and Virginia State Police in sharing Cisco’s first radio interoperability systems project. In addition, working in partnership with the city’s Utility Department, all departments with the city were connected with fiber optic cable to create a very robust metropolitan area network that will meet the needs of the city in the foreseeable future.

Mr. Goode earned his Master Degree from the University of Virginia, with a major in the Management of Information Technology from the School of Commerce. He also holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Liberty University.

In Mr. Goode’s earlier career, he has served in the capacity of Systems Analyst, Programmer/Analyst, IT Consultant, and Network Engineer. He has taught IT classes at Danville Community College, Piedmont Community College, Central Community College, and Averett University as an adjunct instructor.
